Virgin coconut oil is also called ”white coconut oil”. It is extracted
from freshly shredded and first pressed coconut meat of choice and
mature coconuts. It is termed virgin because it is pure as in white, it does not undergo any hydrogeneration or any heating processes, it is
unrefined, it is unbleached and has not undergone any deodorizing
process. Unlike other coconut oil that are extracted through heat, VCO
does not possess that latik odour but the fresh aroma of coconut oil. VCO is the most healthy and versatile of all vegetable oils. It is composed primarily of medium chain fatty acids (MCFA) or Triglycerides. MCFA are quickly digested and is transformed immediatley by the body as energy. This also means that VCO does not produce fat and cholesterol.
Saturated fats found in VCO are actaully good and promotes health. VCO has anti-microbial properties. Its high lauric acid content makes it a natural anti-bacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal substance. It is also found to be very stable so it doesnot oxidize easily. As a result Vitamins A, C and E, which strengthens the body's immune system are not depleted.
